September 5, 2024, West Des Moines, IA — Zirous, a leading…
Especially around the holidays, the team at Zirous understand how important it is to give back to the community that we work and live in. Every little bit helps out. The team at Zirous is a generous group always willing to help out a great cause. Here are some current initiatives we’re supporting. Hopefully this will inspire other small businesses to look into supporting their local community groups.
Food Pantry Donation
We are currently donating food to Waukee Area Christian Services. Mark Myers, a Zirous team member spearheaded this drive because, “We work for a very good company and are a very blessed group of people. So even if it’s just something small, there is someone out there that appreciates whatever we can do, and that means a lot.” This gives our team another chance to share with those less fortunate this holiday season.
Meals from the Heartland
In October of this year a group of Zirous employees took some time out of their Saturday and helped prepare food for Haiti at Meals from the Heartland’s National Make a Difference Day. The goal for the day was to prepare 150,000 meals. Being a part of such a large goal was incredible. I was able to bring my whole family along to share in the rewarding work. My co-worker, Rod Jorgensen, had this to say about the time he spent at Meals from the Heartland, “Recently I volunteered two hours of my Saturday morning to participate in a Meals From The Heartland food packaging event. Even though the main purpose of this event was to lend a small hand to starving people around the world, I left this event with high spirits and a deeper appreciation for the good fortunes of my own life. I highly recommend the experience to everyone.”
Habitat for Humanity
Our project for 2013 was working on improving some low income homeowners houses. Our Zirous group volunteered for the Des Moines area Habitat for Humanity’s Rock the Block event. This event targets a low income neighborhood that is in need of some repairs. We donned our hard hats and work gloves to paint, caulk and replace old windows. Another group from our team got to replace a homeowners deck. Luke Wenz shared this, “We had a great time replacing the windows on the house [for] an elderly lady. She was very appreciative of the help and it felt good to be able to assist someone in need.”
