Avi Thakur:
Director of SOA and Development Services
Over your entire working lifetime, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?
“I used to wait tables at Perkins {during college}. A drunk man once gave me a $5 tip for a cup of coffee.”
If given the chance, who would you like to spend a day with?
“I’d like to spend a day with Mahatma Gandhi. {I’d want to find out} where his patience and fortitude comes from. A single person basically brought down the British empire, so it would be interesting to have a conversation with him.”
What’s a fun memory that you can share about your time at Zirous?
“I think you should just quote ‘haha’ for this answer! But {specifically}, any trip to OpenWorld was a highlight because you get to bond with people outside of their professional life. It’s also an opportunity to see what’s out there, mingle with product managers and have those relationships built.”
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
“I am from Kathmandu, Nepal. I lived in Nepal until I was 17. I was fortunate enough to go to a boarding school run by the British government, so I have a high school diploma from both England and Nepal. I would stay at the boarding school for ten months and then be home for two months.”
What was the moment that you knew you wanted to go into the Information Technology field?
“In eighth grade my math teacher brought in a Sinclair 81 Microcomputer. He started offering a computer science course and as part of that class I programmed a battleship game being played between two separate computers.”
What do you find the most challenging at Zirous?
“You wear multiple hats and you need to be on your toes when it comes to discussions. Also challenging is the variety of different clients that you get to work with and how you need to adjust yourself based on who you’re talking to.”
If you could only drink one beer for the rest of your life, what would it be?
“Big Burger – it’s a German beer!”
Who’s your favorite superhero?
“Superman. Those are the first superhero movies I watched as a kid.”
What music do you listen to?
“I follow all genres. You’ll find a hodge-podge of music and I’ll play it depending on my mood. Anywhere from 70’s classic rock to EDM.”
